A gun-sighting telescope, made by Ottway of Ealing in World War 2. An interesting item – Ottway was a huge producer of different types of military optical devices but I haven’t been able to find an identical one on the internet. It is well marked, inscribed (broad arrow) W OTTWAY & CO LTD, EALING, LONDON 1945, no. 1505 patt 12100, np46. Measures 27” long.
The stand is also unusual – it has a leather clamp, rather than the usual brass one. The adjustable height tripod, made of wood and brass, is stamped “STAND INSTRS No 21 MK V, NEW ZEALAND, (BROAD ARROW) 8204” and pointed ends on the tripod, made for field work.
