Description
A rare opportunity to buy a top of the range oak writing slope in close-to original condition.
The heavy duty original brass fittings are in generally good condition.
The original Bramah lock is still in place, but there is no key. The lock’s security plate is not original, suggesting that the lock may have been forced at some time in the past.
One of the writing tablets has been broken, and a repair has been attempted.
The cartouche on the lid is again made of heavy duty brass, in excellent condition, and is inscribed:-
“J C W Wardlaw esqre
China”
There is a reference to a J C Wardlaw working as a clerk at A Moy in the China directory for 1867, but that’s the limit of my research.
The box contains 2 x Berry’s patent light boxes, again in good condition considering their age, with the gold embossing still in good condition.
A small J Challenge nib case contains 3 x nibs.
The base is lined with green velvet, not original.
More photographs are available on request.
