Description
An Art Deco bronze mortar and pestle set by Max LeVerrier, featuring a dark-patinated or ebonized body contrasted by polished bronze elements including the rim, interior, base, and pestle.
The exterior of the mortar is decorated with applied circular medallions, each depicting a radiating sun-like or stylized lion’s head motif, flanking a central raised vertical band.
The underside of the mortar is clearly inscribed with “BRONZE” and the name “LeVerrier”.
Le Verrier’s studio created bronze lamps, ashtrays, bookends, desk sets, and hood ornaments; often featuring nude women or animals in an Art Deco style
