Paul Kruger cast iron Money Box C. 1890
Representing Paul Kruger, the Transvaal President who led his country to victory against the British in the first Anglo-Boer War.
In its original colours, with the paint well worn.
“TRANSVAAL MONEY BOX” is written boldly on Kruger’s top hat, and “By Permission of the Proprietors of the Westminster Gazelie,” on Kruger’s back – across his shoulders, with “made in England” underneath the previously mentioned text. He still has his original pipe, which would jiggle up and down whenever money was paid in. At some time the 2 halves have been welded together on the hat seams.
